How much longer?

Last weekend was a holiday so no school on Monday. This weekend is a 4-day weekend. It's lopsided so the kids go back Monday and I'm off, but that's good. They were off Thursday while I had a very full day at school. It comes out in the wash.

Monday I'll get a very small taste of what life will be like when I'm home full-time and the kids are gone. I'll start working on my new schedule and get psyched up. Then head back to work for a couple more weeks. Blech! But there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm counting down very impatiently.

This morning I made Banana Bread. It was yummy. The kids were thrilled because they love it and I hadn't made it since this summer when Baba was here. I plan to make lots more in the future. There will be more homemade goodness coming from the kitchen, like sweet Italian bread that we can use for French toast or sandwiches. Cookies...dug out my 1001 Cookie Mix the other day and the recipes that go with it. I downloaded a free recipe manager online called Gourmet. It's neat. I love to collect recipes that I find online and this will help me keep them from taking over my computer and hiding among all the others. I can also save the ones I have written down so if one gets lost I can just look it up here.

Since we were home yesterday waiting for the guy to deliver the gas for the chauffage (he'd actually come the day before and remembered which tank was mine) I got some cleaning done. In a few minutes I'm going to call Aunt and see if she wants to go with us to visit some cousins we've been too busy to go and see since school started. Another benefit to being home full-time will be that the housework is done during the week when the kids are at school and we can enjoy our weekends with fun stuff like that. Something else to look forward to.

Elektra has been driving me to distraction lately. She apparently feels lonely when we're all gone and has been showing it in rather unpleasant (i.e. smelly) ways. Last night I had the Boss get the crate out of the attic and that will be her place when we're not home. We were gone for only 2 hours last night and had taken her out right before going and she still left a mess for us when we got home. This is not acceptable. So it's the crate until I'm home all day and can get her on track again. Just putting her in the garden doesn't work because she just goes on the terrace. The smell from the urine is so strong that even with the glass door closed I can smell it. I don't want to know what the neighbors think of that. So apparently it's not just the 2-legged children in my house who need me home more. LOL

BTW, here's my recipe for Banana Bread. The kids love this.

1 1/2 c. raw sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened a bit
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. sour milk
2 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 c. raisins (optional-the kids don't care for them so I leave them out but yours might like them)
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. bananas, about 3-4 large, mashed
1/2-1 c. nuts, chopped (I love them myself but usually leave them out)

Combine all the ingredients in a big bowl and mix with electric mixer. Pour into 2 loaf pans, greased. Bake on 350F for 50-60 minutes. Although my oven is too warm or something because it's usually getting a bit dark on the bottom and sides after about 30-35 minutes. Need to keep working on this one.

I love this recipe because it makes 2 loaves...one just doesn't cut it for us.
