Today was the first day of school for the kids and first day of subbing for me. The Boss is now a freshman and loved it. The Peanuts really like their teachers and were proud to tell Baba and me that they didn't lose a stick. No that's not some strange Lebanese expression...it's the discipline plan for their grade.
Each student has 3 sticks with their name on them. One is yellow, one is red, and one is blue. The first warning they have to give the teacher the yellow stick. The second stick they have to give her the red. The 3rd time they give her the blue stick and they get a blue note to take home to Mom and Dad...meaning they "blue" it. They also lose the chance to participate in Fantastic Friday.
I subbed for one of the Agriculture teachers. They're at the State Fair this week. The kids are good. First period has only 8 kids, 2nd period has 15, and 4th has 22. Then I head home. I drove past the elementary playground and saw the Peanuts at recess, having a blast with their friends. This is the first time they've been in the same school two years in a row. If Baba ever wants to move to a place with more acreage I'll agree on one condition...we stay in this school district. It's a nice, small, rural school with a very good academic record. They score higher in several areas than the state average on their "report card".
Last night we lost a bit of sleep due to excitement over the start of the year. I'm expecting them to get to sleep faster tonight but I won't hold my breath. We might need to give it a few days first. When I got home today the most I did was fix supper. But tomorrow I hope to get more done than that! If this is how I'm starting off the school year I don't want to assume that I'll have a full week next week to get things in order. Though I'll gladly take it as an excuse not to!
