Ramadan TV Commercial

Today is the start of Ramadan. When we lived in Lebanon it didn't really impact us too much other than the kids being out of school for Eid. While their school was founded by Quakers in the 19th century, the students were a mix of Christian and Muslim so holidays from both religions were observed. Also due to the mix of the Lebanese people, many of the holidays from both religions are national holidays anyway so no school. It made for a very pleasant calendar.

When we lived in Kuwait it had a much larger impact on us. Whether you are Muslim or not, you are not allowed to break the fast during daylight hours in public. So no food, drink, chewing gum, etc. in public unless you want to spend the remainder of the month in jail. School hours were much shorter which, while making planning periods a mad rush to get things done, made for a nice time. Our favorite TV channels would have series on you didn't have other times of the year. "Knight Rider" every night of the week, for example. LOL

I recently was directed to a website for Christians to pray for our Muslim brothers and sisters during Ramadan. Actually the website offers resources for praying for them all year long, but especially during this "holy" month for them. The 30-Day Challenge has a special section for prayers for each day during Ramadan, plus you can sign up to receive e-mail reminders. I signed up and have received two. You receive them a day early so I have 2 in my inbox even though it's only the first day of Ramadan.

Now off to get my Monday started.
