Bad combination

Today's a snow day. I intended to get up, feed the kids, and hit the living room. Then spend the rest of the day relaxing with the kids and knitting with maybe some reading thrown in for good measure. However...

I've spent most of this time online. I've done a great job of avoiding the internet. I update on FB and occasionally remember that I have a blog. I check mail, etc. But today is one of those days that I just sat on my derriere and vegged and stewed over various things going on in the world. The murders of 6 innocent people and the attempted murder of a senator. The planned protest by Westboro of the 9 year-old victim's funeral. The hope in the coming together of the community in working hard to prevent them from tormenting her family. The stupidity of some elements in our society on blaming *violent rhetoric* from conservatives for the actions of a young man who is clearly suffering from mental illness with clear symptoms but no testing or help of any kind.

I find it rather amusing, however, that the same ones blaming this tragedy on *violent rhetoric* from the right refuse to blame acts of terrorism on *violent rhetoric* coming from mosques and Islamic centers right on our own American soil. When a Muslim officer guns down people in the name of Allah, despite the *rhetoric* he's been surrounding himself with, he's obviously mentally unstable and that was the reason for his rampage. When a young man with no ties to Islam goes on a murdering rampage, it must be the result of *violent rhetoric* against gun control. Huh?

Well, I'm going to get offline and watch some brain numbing TV with the kids. And get some knitting done.
