The inmates are still running the asylum!

Over the last few weeks I've been very proud of a Lebanese government for sticking to their guns over the trouble they'd been giving a Hezbollah over their communications network and the sacking of the head of security at the airport. I thought, for once they're going to not give in to Hezbollah and their kind. But alas, I was wrong. It shouldn't have really been much of a surprise.

When the people running the government have jaded histories of their own...militia leaders, former presidents (one of whom had the backing of Saddam Hussein), suppliers of arms to Palestinian troublemakers in Tripoli, etc. can you really expect them to know how to run a democracy? They sit around shooting off their mouths on LBC and the other networks (you've never seen so many talking heads until you've turned on Lebanese television) while the people watching them are only able to do so because they are fortunate to be hooked up to a generator that they're probably being overcharged for.
