It's orange outside! Cool!

Yesterday we were going about our business in grade 2 girls. The girls had just finished their social studies work and were loading up their bags to head down to the library. Since library is the last period of the day on a Wednesday they pack up to go home before heading down to the basement.

One of my girls has been really pushing it this week. I had to write a note to her mother. I looked outside and saw that it was very dusty outside and turned to my desk to write the note. Less than 60 seconds later I turned back around and everything outside was orange. I mean, bright pumpkin orange. Visibility was almost nil and cars were honking at each other because they weren't moving.

I hurried next door and told my neighbor to grab her camera. She's a photographer by training and is on the yearbook committee so I figured odds were pretty good that she'd have it with her. She grabbed it and starting shooting. We headed down to the basement for our library visit and the librarian said she didn't have any masks in her emergency bag. I went back upstairs to check mine (didn't have any) and my TA called to say they were headed back upstairs. She came bearing paper masks. So we put on our masks and played Heads Up 7 Up until time to go.

Parents started picking kids up early. Normally if they pick up their kids before dismissal they need the principal or one of the coordinators to sign a slip. Obviously that wasn't happening yesterday. My girl count started dropping and pretty soon we didn't have enough for our game. My neighbor came in a took a pic of my girls wearing their masks. Should make for some good yearbook material. I asked her to send me the pics from the window and of my girls. When I get them I'll post them.

Here's a link to a story in a local paper about the storm that hit here and about one that hit "up north" as well.

Actually this isn't the one that N took. I'm still waiting for those and then I'll post them. But the sky was that bright an orange yesterday. Cool, huh?

Is that for real?? It wasn't photoshopped, was it? Cuz that is incredible. What would make the sky orange like that? Very, very cool picture.

Nope, it's not photoshopped. It was actually orange outside. I had girls crying until we started playing our game and then when we had too few to play the game, they started in again. LOL

Amazing! I've seen the sky turn green (right before a tornado) but never orange! Is it because of the color of the sand or what?
I'll go read the article. Can't wait to see the pics!

Also, I meant to say that I had forgotten about that game! Heads-up 7-up. I can't remember how it's played! :( How about doing a post on how to play this game.

My brother's a -certain distance- north of you, and was trying to describe to me the sky turning blood red a few weeks ago. He didn't have a camera handy to snap a picture, so I'm glad you posted this so I could see what it looks like!

YIKES!
